A Hundred Ducks

At sunset from the backyard,
I watched the silhouette of a hundred ducks
Gathering, swimming and
consorting about the days events

They were splashing on the lake,
breaking it’s glassy surface
With ripples of joy hitting the shore,
like a never ending smile

As it grew darker, their voices grew louder
as if they were saying
There’s a lot more joy to share,
before the stars send us to sleep

Splashes slowed down and then a steady silence,
as the night held them safe in her wing
Bringing them all to a beautiful dream,
where they could once again share the joys of the day.
